Arc, ARC and USDC: Three Different Things

2 min read Content updated

TL;DR: Arc is the network, USDC is the stablecoin used for its documented gas model, and ARC is an announced coordination-token design. Do not treat the three as interchangeable.

Arc: where applications operate

The network records transactions and runs applications. Using it is an activity, not a purchase of ownership in Circle. Start with the Arc overview if the network itself is new to you.

USDC: the transaction and fee asset

USDC is a dollar-denominated stablecoin. Arc’s documentation uses it for gas. Holding it, paying a network fee with it and investing in a company are different things. Our gas explainer walks through a small payment example.

ARC: an announced coordination design

Circle’s May 2026 results announced an ARC token presale and whitepaper. The whitepaper introduction discusses intended roles in network coordination, governance and future participation. It also states that ARC has not launched and that features can change. Circle’s announcement and the whitepaper introduction provide the primary references.

Those statements establish an announced design, not a currently verified public buying or claiming route. This guide has not verified a public token contract, trading venue, airdrop or distribution date.

Read a token announcement in layers

  1. Design: what is the proposed role?
  2. Deployment: has the relevant token actually been launched?
  3. Access: who is eligible to acquire or use it?
  4. Market: is there a verified venue and meaningful liquidity?

A statement about one layer does not answer the others. In particular, a network launch date is not automatically a token-listing date. A token symbol appearing in a wallet search is not independent proof of identity.

Frequently asked questions

Can I assume an “ARC claim” link is official?

No. Establish the announcement and exact destination through official sources first. This guide provides no claim link because no claim process was verified.
